This year, I am ready.  Healthy and fit, I will be.

Mr. J and I have decided to give the Paleo diet a go.  I don’t like calling it a diet, but for the short-term, I know that is what it will feel like.  Sugar withdrawals, carb cravings?  Yup, I am ready.  Bring it.

At this stage, I am not entirely sure what exercise routine I want to follow.  I enjoyed 30 Day Shred, Ripped in 30, P90x, and briefly attempted couch to 5k, last year.  With no gym membership this year, I would love to invest in a treadmill, but $$ is an issue.

I think that perhaps a combination of the above may be more achievable/sustainable.  The 20 minute workouts in 30 Day Shred and Ripped in 30 I feel are not enough, yet, the P90x routine was a bit much.  I am working on a plan, and hope to share it soon.

January 1st: I have weighed in, measurements taken – I can’t wait to make it happen this year.

Yep, I was sore yesterday.  Crazy sore, and still pretty achey today.  My butt and legs especially.

But, after my motivation kick on Wednesday, I didn’t want to have more than one day off -  I want to get back into the swing of things, sooner rather than later  -
So today, Ripped in 30 again  :)

I have to say, I find Jillian Michaels’ lack of activity in the video pretty de-motivating.  Plus, the girl who is doing the hardest moves – isn’t actually working that hard(!)  I much prefer the ladies in 30 Day Shred.

I cannot deny, (although I dearly loved the 30 Day Shred!), I was clearly ready for something more.  Routine is not good for fitness.

I am feeling excited, and impatient, to get stuck in for the 30 days, and see some results.  Although I am not sure what I will want to do when my thesis is finished -  As I will have more time on my hands for exercise, and will hopefully be able to get to the gym.  Plus I missed this months measurements :(   and I would love to do a before/after review.

Anyway, it is pretty clear that I am procrastinating(!)

So, after a week off exercise, well actually 2 weeks at reduced exercise…     I got the bug again today.

I don’t know if it was the 9hrs of sleep last night;  The extension I was granted for my thesis;  The realisation that my cruise holiday is only 2 months away;  Or perhaps that my body knows that enough is enough (overeating much?).

I want to complete, as soon as possible, but not at the detriment of my body.  Plus pass/fail generally means = chill the f*** out.  Not that telling myself that has really changed anything(!)  ;)

So, despite the stress, I gave week 1 of Jillian Michael’s Ripped in 30 DVD.  I was pretty surprised, the cardio was intense.  Amazing how quickly you adjust to routine, I am quite happy doing 30 Day Shred Level 3 now, but level 1 for Ripped?  It was tough.

Anyway, back to the point of this post – motivation.  Today, I had a heap of it.  Editing my goals, changing up my calendar.  Yep, I can totally exercise every day.  Why not see what I can achieve – really commit to Ripped in 30.  30 days straight, totally doable!  Ha!

Doesn’t take much for my what I ‘want’ to do, to overwhelm what I will realistically “do”.  Still, I don’t like to throw it away… you never know, right.  I could shock myself and actually get to where I want to be(!)  Not all that realistic with 6 years of study coming to an end over the next month.  Maybe next month…

But still, I hope.  I am going to take it one day at a time.  And hopefully find some motivation for my thesis, — the quicker it’s done the sooner I can work toward the goals that I am actually interested in(!)

Okay, so I don’t want to add any extra pressure over the next few weeks, as I will certainly have enough going on(!).  I have kinda taken the last week off.  But I want to make some goals, so I have something to aim for, and don’t totally fall off the wagon  ;)

And so,

+ Weekly Step is a must
+ Weekly cardio too
+ Weekly Shred

I also got the new, (well not all that new now), Jillian Michaels DVD “Ripped in 30″.  I am hoping that this will be extra motivation to workout at home between writing.  I love Shred, but certainly ready for something new.

So not much there, but hopefully I can maintain that.

I was up so very early Saturday morning, after a pretty average nights sleep.  Up so early – that I was working by 6:30… I took a break around 11 to do Shred L3.  I don’t know why, but it was particularly hard(!)  Although, just might have had something to do with the lack of sleep and crazy work schedule.

Mr. J was sweet enough to bring me lunch home with a frozen coke, after he finished work (now that the weather is getting warmer, it is a bad habit that I don’t want to start!).  I <3 frozen coke  ;)   We shared a chicken avocado roll from Cafe Idellic > Yum.

After a bit of tidying up, we headed out to Floriade.  Not the best idea to go on the first day, but it was such a nice day.  So nice in fact, that I got shorts out from the back of the wardrobe(!)  We met a couple of friends there and lazily wandered around. Main purchase was 2 bottles of Lindemans wine (for later that night)

A couple of hours later, it was home time to rest our feet, and then get ready for dinner/drinks for my friend’s farewell.  Dinner was at Blu Ginger in the city.  Drinks at Muddle Bar, then we hit up ICBM for some dancing.

Sunday was mostly a day of rest.  Well needed, but really wasn’t enough.  I still(!) need a break… is this what they call burn-out?

Shred Overload

Wednesday I had planned to go to Step, but my headache was still haunting me, so it was Shred L3 at home again.

Thursday I had intended to go to Pump, but again not feeling so fab, but I was still determined to exercise so it was L3 once again.

Friday, was a busy day, so Shred L3 got a look in again, in between work.  I am getting so much use of that DVD!
Can you see a pattern here?  I am not liking it because my calories burned have taken a major hit.  And I have been so busy that I have majorly lapsed in recording my intake.  Over half way through September, and I am dreading doing my review at the end of the month.

I will do what I can this week to get back on track with some decent workouts, and recording properly.

We started the weekend with a trip to Costco.  Mr. J and I needed to stock up on nibblies for our housewarming the next day.  We always spend so much when we go :S  I think the whole saving thing is lost on us!!  But we got lots of good bulk nibblies – my fave had to be the ‘poppycock’ – Caramel covered popcorn with almonds and pecans.  Not good to have it in the house – don’t do it!  ;)

We dropped off the shopping and then ventured out to find brunch.  I wish we hadn’t :S  We ended up at the Central Cafe, which I would basically call a truck stop!  I ordered a small(!) bacon and eggs.  Let me tell you it was not small, and it came with fries!  It was pretty oily, and I was glad I had only had an apple for breakfast to even things out…

Then the hunt was on (again) for bedside tables.  I cannot believe how hard this has been!  We found a good pair in Fyshwick, but they wouldn’t sell the display ones, and ordering would take 3-4 weeks.  Not happy.  We tried a few other places, but with no luck I think we will have to go back there.  I hate buying from sales reps with bad customer service just out of principle!

Mr. J and I spent the rest of Saturday getting ready for the housewarming, cleaning, washing etc.  I made us honey soy roast chicken with sweet potato fries and green beans for dinner.  Pretty good I reckon!

Sunday I started the day with 30 Day Shred level 3.  I love starting the day like this – If only I was a morning person and could do it during the week(!)

After that it was last minute preparations, buying ice, etc and a quick brunch of a poached egg on a wholemeal english muffin.

Then it was an afternoon of relaxing with friends :)

Now that I am exercising regularly, I think it is time to focus on my nutrition.

I definitely don’t think that exercise has become a natural ‘habit’ for me, but perhaps it never will.  So I will still be planning September workouts, but hopefully I can start to incorporate the importance of nutrition too.

So starting with the easy stuff -

+  Maintain the amount of execise I managed through August, which means exercising minimum five days a week.
+  Weekly Yoga, Step and Shred, starting to incorporate Attack and Pump.
+  Continue jogging, I want to build up my endurance.
+  Burn a minimum of 2000 calories per day.

Now for the challenging aspects -

+  More accuracy in recording meals, stopping the guesswork.
+  Keeping my calories consumed under 1500, which means a minimum deficit of 500 calories per day.

Clearly, this will not be achievable all the time.  But, it will be the focus for all breakfasts and lunches(!), and dinners during the week.  So, if date night or catching up with friends is on the cards, then I will plan accordingly.

If I keep this up, I should be looking toward another 2kg loss by the end of the month, and closer toward reaching my goal before Christmas :)

Better late than never, with *still* no internet.

Saturday began pretty leisurely… wait, that’s not true!  It was leisurely after I did 30 Day Shred L3.  Showered, then a late breakfast, some tidying/cleaning before a couple of friends popped in.

What I am loving about our new place – the ability to sit in the sun on our mega balcony :)   Bliss.

Then it was time for a very late lunch and catch up with a friend at KG’s, or Kingston Grind.  My friend then got the tour of our place, before it was time for her to head off and for Mr. J and I to get ready for dinner and drinks in the city.  Pizza was shared amongst the table at King O’ Malleys, while I sipped on water, and then later a Coke Zero -I was designated driver ;)    I think I held up pretty well, I was pretty tired and with everyone else drinking it can be a bit blah, if you know what I mean.

Sunday I attempted to sleep in, but awake by 8:30, I guess still not too bad… Another leisurely morning, and then Mr. J and I did a few errand-y things, picking up alterations, etc.

Then I met a friend for coffee before yoga – we had lots to catch up on :)
Yoga was great, as usual – I might not love it when I am doing it, but I feel fab after :)

Sunday dinner was a quickie but yum- homemade chicken burritos.  And I attempted to relax before facing the week ahead.  The stress is ever so slowly increasing by the day ;)

Hmmm, hope I didn’t forget anything – hopefully regular posting will resume very soon(!!)   :)

Wednesday was a bit brighter than Monday and Tuesday; so no need to make it an -itis!  ;)

I hit up Step in the afternoon, and was really happy with the class, as usual.  I burned 2287 cals and had a deficit of 895 cals – Awesome-o!

Thursday was back to class – Hello semester 2, I can’t wait until you are over(!)  It was a long day, with virtually zilch activity.  I couldn’t face doing any exercise in the evening, plus I desperately needed to prepare for a job interview for the next day.  Ended the day with 1676 cals burned and a 467 cal deficit.

Friday I was a nervous wreck.  Wait, scrap that – I have been a nervous wreck all week (apologies Mr. J!).  The interview wasn’t until that afternoon, so even though I was feeling pretty sick – 30 Day Shred Level THREE saw another day :)   I still have to modify some of the exercises.  But loving the extra burn :)

Because of the job interview, I did not wear my body media armband for the day – and have no idea about cals -

But never mind that – I weighed in!  And, I know it has a lot to do with stress, but I was down another 700g!  .7kg!

Bringing my total loss since August 1st to > 2.2kg <

Date night with Mr. J tonight at a French restaurant  :)
